Pattisue Thoman was born July 10, 1939 in Denison, Texas to Major Thomas Thoman and Dorothy Larsen Thoman.
She attended various elementary schools and graduated from Denison High School in 1957. She graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1961, and received a Master of Library Science degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1966. She also did graduate study at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
She married Alton B. “Pete” Smith on December 16, 1961. They were married 29 years.
She was an active member of University Baptist Church. She was a charter member of the Cooperating Baptist Fellowship of Oklahoma.
She served as a librarian in various capacities at the Oklahoma Baptist University Library until her retirement in 2004. She was active in various professional library organizations including one term as president of the Oklahoma Bibliographic Instruction Counsel.
She served on the Shawnee Public Library Board and on the Pioneer Library System board and was an active volunteer for it at other times.
She actively worked for causes she believed in. Most recently she was a volunteer chaplain for Unity Hospital, now Saint Anthony Shawnee, helped with Family Promise, and was a precinct chair for the Pott County Democrats.
She is survived by her daughter, April Benfield and her husband Steve of Tecumseh, OK; son, Tom Smith and his wife Wendy of Olathe, KS; and her grandchildren, Patrick, Tyler, Kyle, Jessica, Sophia and Connor.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015 at University Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Dominy officiating. Burial will be in Fairview-Maple Grove Cemetery, Denison, Texas.
