Charles D. Smith

Charles D. Smith, of Shawnee age 80, died Friday, May 15 at a local hospital. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 18 at Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Todd Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials: May be to Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund 1451 East 45th St. Shawnee, Oklahoma 74804. Charles was born September 3, 1934 in Chandler, Texas, to Gaines Allen & Bertie Julia (Morman) Smith. He attended Chandler High School, Chandler, Texas. He retired with a total of 26 years of service with 24 in the Navy Seabees and 2 in the U.S. Army. He was on the staff of Baptist General Convention of Texas as a construction Manager. This was his second retirement job. He married Jeanette Jordan on July 9, 1957. Was a Member of the Immanuel Baptist Church and member of the Tyler, Texas Masonic Lodge #1233 since 1966. Accepted Christ at 16 and served Him faithfully in many ministries of the Church. Deacon for 50 years plus. Travelled to many countries, enjoyed wood working and enjoyed spending time with family, especially the grandchildren. Preceded in death by: Parents, brother: Billy Jack.
