James “Jim” John Miller, 94, died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, June 19, 2015 at his home in Shawnee.
Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2015 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church with Father Bill Carroll officiating. Jim’s ashes will be interred at the Columbarium at the church. Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Emmanuel Outreach ministry.
Jim was born on August 27, 1920 in Cresco, Iowa, to John Henry Miller and Teresa Mary Devery Miller. He joined the Army in 1940 and then served in the Merchant Marines from 1942 to 1945. After his military service he went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad and retired as station agent from the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad in 1985.
Jim married Janice Wilson on July 15, 1978 and enjoyed 37 happy years. They enjoyed traveling, fishing, and dancing. Jim was a ham radio operator for many years, a skilled carpenter and electrician. He was dedicated to his family and a loyal friend who was always there to lend a hand.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Joseph and his sisters Nell, Ann, Ursula and Margaret.
Survivors include Janice Miller of the home; children: James Alan Miller, wife Joan of Port Angeles, Washington; Lorrie MacKenzie of Shawnee and Lisa Campbell Troxell, husband Mark of Guthrie; Betty Norton of Shawnee; Debbie Bourbonnais, husband Larry, of Shawnee; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
