Barbara Lee (Stith) Herrell was born January 14, 1932 in Coldwater, Kansas to Leonard and Eva Stith. She left for heaven on August 16 at the age of 83.
God blessed her with a kind spirit, a gentle grace, and a beauty from within.
The family moved to Shawnee in 1939. She attended Shawnee High School.
Barbara married LeRoy Herrell and was married for 53 years before he passed away in 2001.
Family was of upmost importance to her. She enjoyed camping at Lake Eufaula where the family gathered for boating, skiing and swimming. She also enjoyed getting together for lunch with her brothers and sisters.
Barbara was a member of Wa he pe ki, where she delivered the devotional. She also was a member of LaMadre Mother’s Club in her earlier years, and served as homeroom mother for her children’s classes.
Over the course of her life she worked at Sylvania and then Sears where she retired June 1993 after 25 years of service.
Barbara was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for over 60 years. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, served in Vacation Bible School, and served on various committees. Her parents influenced her spiritual life and set an example that she would model throughout her life.
She is survived by three daughters, LeeAnn Wingo of Shawnee, Rhonda Austin and husband Stanley of Shawnee, and Susan Carrels and husband Pete of Tulsa, one son, Larry Herrell of Choctaw; eleven grandchildren: Amber Rooks, Kim Balan, Brett Austin, Blake Steveson, Tiffany Keigley, Brandi Herrell, Justin Herrell, Sara Herrell, Derek Herrell, Stephen Herrell and Jared Herrell; and eleven great-grandchildren; as well as two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ken & Lois Stith and Bill & Dot Stith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother: Archie Stith, three sisters: Joy Ridenour, Betty Anderson, and Nona Harless; one son: Gary Herrell, and one grandson: Christopher Herrell.
Services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Walker Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. The family will be at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 5:30-7:00 p.m. to receive friends.
