Mary Lucille "Susie" Shaughnessy

Shaughnessy, Mary Lucille (Susie) 85, died Friday, September 11, 2015, at the family’s home from natural causes. Born in St. Louis on May 11, 1930, the daughter of Lester and Elsie Watson, Mrs. Shaughnessy graduated from The Academy of The Sacred Heart, City House, in St Louis where she was President of the Lycee Coeur. She attended Ursuline College in Cleveland, Ohio and in December 1950, she was married to James Robert Shaughnessy, the founder of the St. Louis Magazine and The Imagineering Corporation, a television producer and pioneer. Mrs. Shaughnessy was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Pillar Catholic Church, where her six children attended school. Mrs. Shaughnessy was a volunteer coach in basketball, softball and football for many years at Our Lady of the Pillar. Mrs. Shaughnessy was an active participant and organizer of spiritual retreats for women and very active at The Cenacle Retreat League in Ladue. Upon relocating with her family to Utah, Mrs. Shaughnessy was voted “Young Mother of the Year” in Salt Lake City. Upon the death of her husband, in late 1990, Mrs. Shaughnessy pursued a career as a Director of Elder Hostel Programs nationwide. She was a beloved elder Hostel leader. She later became an oblate at the Benedictine Monastery of St Gregory’s Abbey in Shawnee. Mrs. Shaughnessy remained active in sports at The Oakwood Country Club in Enid and in her spiritual volunteer work, daily, until she was 85. Mrs. Shaughnessy’s life’s purpose was ever clear – “To spread God’s love, as we are all God’s children.” Across a universal spectrum of culture and creeds she spread her infectious attitude of acceptance and love, as an ambassador for peace and diversity. She defined herself by her unconditional love, but the love and devotion she bore her family superseded all others. Mrs. Shaughnessy is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, James Robert Shaughnessy and by daughters Susan Mary Shaughnessy (Tucker) and Colleen Mary Shaughnessy. Among Mrs. Shaughnessy's survivors are four of her children, Mary Ann Shaughnessy, Kathleen Benson (spouse Gerald), James Robert Shaughnessy II (spouse Kathryn) and Daniel Mark Shaughnessy (spouse Danielle). Mrs. Shaughnessy is also survived by grandchildren, James Reilly Tucker, John Lester Tucker (spouse Rene), Dagny Ann Tucker, Geoffrey Hamilton Krum, Colleen Shaughnessy Krum, Kaitlyn Marie Benson, James Robert Shaughnessy III, Aine Marie Shaughnessy, Charis Lane Shaughnessy, Jacob Paul Shaughnessy, Erinn Marie Shaughnessy, Zedek Christian Shaughnessy, Elisha David Shaughnessy, and Fhionna Shaphir Shaughnessy. Additionally by her great-grandchildren; Nathan Tucker, Stephanie Tucker, Chase Tucker, Quinn Tucker, Eridanis Dickson-Tucker, Gabriel Dodd and Maxum Dodd. The family invites the community to a Rosary service and time of sharing at 7:15 P.M., Friday at the St. Gregory Abbey Chapel. Services: Mass/Burial Service will be held on September 19, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., with light lunch following at St.Gregory’s Abbey, 1900 West MacArthur Drive, Shawnee Oklahoma, 74804.
