Richard C. Newell, Sr., 91, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 29, 2015.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Walker Funeral Service with Terry Newell and Ray Newell officiating. The family has requested no flowers be sent.
Richard C. Newell, Sr. was born September 18, 1924 in NW Seminole County. His parents were G.D. and Sarah (Sealock) Newell.
Richard was drafted into the Army during May, 1943. He served in the 101 Airborne Division as a Paratrooper. He completed 21 jumps and was honorably discharged December 19, 1945. He returned to Seminole County, “footloose and fancy free” and married the best looking girl in Seminole County. Richard married Bette Jean Mallory on March 16, 1946. Of this union 2 children were born, Richard (Rick) and Rhonda Jean Newell (deceased).
Richard was a member of Thompson Heights Church of Christ and was a Heartland Hospice Volunteer.
Richard was preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Jean Newell, his parents, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.
He is survived by his wife of over 69 years, a son, Richard Newell, Jr. and wife Charlott Kay, granddaughter Sue Anna Roberts, great grandsons Tony Newell, Alex Farrell and Jessica and great-great granddaughter Lilly Farrell.
He is also survived by Raymond Newell and wife Pat and numerous cousins and nieces and nephews. Special friends, Dale and Sherrie Tipken and Sommer & Ryan Yancey.
