Opal Scheidt Wright
Lifelong resident of McLoud, Opal (Scheidt) Wright passed away on Friday, October 16, 2015 at the age of 90. She was born May 20, 1925 in McLoud to John P. Scheidt and Ola (Shreve) Scheidt. She graduated from McLoud High School in 1942.
After graduation, she worked at the Round House Overall Factory in Shawnee where she made garments for military servicemen fighting in World War II. Later in the war, she worked at the Douglas Aircraft Plant in Midwest City spot welding cowlings on aircraft—a true “Rosie the Riveter.” Years later, she sold real estate. She was a member of AARP and a member of the First Baptist Church of McLoud from 1945 until her death.
On July 6, 1943, she married George D. Wright in the Baptist Parsonage in McLoud. He preceded her in death on April 15, 2000 after more than 56 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death are her son, Jimmy Dean Wright; four sisters, Rosa (Ross) Barnett, Edna Lempges, Lucille Fisher and Alice Plunkett; and two brothers, Frank Scheidt and John R. Scheidt.
Survivors include her son, Jerry Wright and daughter-in-law, Donna of McLoud; six grandchildren, Steve Wright and his wife, Trenna and great-granddaughters, Hali Wright and Savannah Floyd and great-great grandsons, Hunter Peeler, Noah Hawkins, and Hayes Wright, all of McLoud; Christopher Wright of Norman; Michelle Miller and her husband, Jack and great-granddaughters, Erica Robbins and Emily Miller, great-grandson, Austin Miller, and great-great grandson, Easton Coronado, all of McLoud; Shane Wright and great-granddaughter, Aisha Wright of McLoud; Lyndsey Hause and her husband, Bill and great-grandson, Cale Hause of Harrah; Justin Wright and his wife, Christina of Oklahoma City; and sister, Grace Brzozowski and brother-in-law, Ed of Harrah; and many nieces and nephews who will miss their Aunt Opal terribly.
Opal was the rock of our family whose steady caring presence guided us all. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother who took care of her family her whole life. Her love and friendship was known to many across multiple generations and she was a pillar of the community she loved. Her boundless hospitality and generosity made countless family and friends feel welcome in her home. The family dinners and get-togethers will always be warm memories to cherish. She exemplified grace and class throughout her life and will be greatly missed by all who were privileged enough to know her.
Services will be held at the First Baptist Church of McLoud on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. Reverend Larry Sparks and Reverend Bill Derrick will be presiding. Interment will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in Shawnee following services.
