Phyllis J. (McEver) O'Connor

Phyllis J. (McEver) O’Connor, affectionately known as "Niminy", 67, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, died Sunday, October 18, 2015 in an Oklahoma City hospital. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Shawnee with Rev. Ray Miller officiating. Phyllis was born November 25, 1947 in Shawnee, Oklahoma, the daughter of Harvey & Foye (Davis) McEver. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1966, and attended OBU. On March 23, 1968 she married the love of her life, Jerry O’Connor. She was a homemaker, and her children & grandchildren, family and friends were the highlight of her life, as were her precious dogs, Gertrude “Gertie” & Isabella “Izzy”. Her home was always open to everyone. Phyllis was a very giving person and loved shopping for anyone and everyone. She enjoyed watching her grandsons play sports and her granddaughter cheer. She loved social gatherings and was an excellent cook, and always made sure there was plenty of food. She loved to travel, and she and Jerry traveled the world extensively. She loved life, her smile and laugh were contagious. Through all of her illnesses, she always had a positive outlook, and will be missed by all. She volunteered for C.A.S.A., S.P.A.R., Junior Service League, Gateway, Shawnee Round-Up Club and D.A.R.E. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, father-in-law: Patrick O’Connor, and mother-in-law: Ara Mae O’Connor. She is survived by: Her husband, Jerry O’Connor of the home. Son & Daughter-in-Law: Jason & Terri O’Connor Daughter & Son-in-Law: Melisa & Chad Humphrey Grandchildren: Kaily & Bryce O’Connor, Gage & Creed Humphrey Brothers-in-Law & Sisters-in-Law: Bob & Jeannette O’Connor, Pat & Cheryl O’Connor, and Don & Becky O’Connor And a Sister-in-Law & Brother-in-Law: Madelyn & Jim VanWagner And a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts. The family has designated M.D. Anderson and S.P.A.R. as appropriate for memorials
