John C. Hazlewood, 97, of Shawnee, OK died Wednesday, February 24, 2016 in a local hospital. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016 in Walker Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Steve Wake officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, 1451 E. 45th, Shawnee, OK 74804. John C. Hazlewood was born September 7, 1918 in Tyler, Texas to Rev. L.F. and Ollie Mae Hazlewood. He attended school in Coalgate, Oklahoma. He served in the United States Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. He married the love of his life, Joanna (Kimbrough). Mr. Hazlewood worked as a shoe and boot maker and later as a supervisor at Tinker Air Force Base where he retired. He was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church, the Men’s Sunday School Class, and the Jesus Heirs Choir. His hobbies include fishing, hunting, watching old westerns, and reading. Preceded in death by his parents, a daughter: Linda Stiles, a great-grandchild: Rylie, and 6 brothers and sister. Survived by: Wife: Joanna Hazlewood of the home, 2 Daughters: Mary Gondos of Pink, OK, Nancy Wake and husband Steve of Mustang, OK, 8 Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great-Grandchild, And several other family members and friends.
