Catherine Idabelle Hughes was born in Elmore City, Oklahoma on April 24, 1921 to William Byron Alexander and Letha Howard Alexander. Catherine grew up in Elmore City and graduated from high school there in 1939 as Valedictorian of her class. She married Lawrence A. “Jack” Hughes on March 24, 1940. In their early marriage, they lived in Woodward, Del City and Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, settling permanently in Shawnee in 1959. She worked for Sears Service Department from September of 1959 until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church for over 30 years. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Byron and Letha Alexander, brothers Leycester and Alvin Alexander, sister Evelyn McKay, husband of 64 years Lawrence “Jack” Hughes, granddaughter Gena Russell and two great-great grandchildren. She is survived by three daughters, Jacqueline and husband Charles Minyard of Oklahoma City, Patsy Hughes of Little Rock, Arkansas and Bonnie and husband Ronald Cockings of Little Rock, Arkansas; six grand-children, James Parkey and wife Leigh Ann of Norman, Oklahoma; Larry Parkey of Oklahoma City, Andrea and husband Anthony Salsberry of Little Rock, Arkansas; Amber and husband Leonard Bryan of Little Rock, Arkansas and Lori and husband Eric Holloway of Little Rock, Arkansas; 15 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren. Services will be at 10:00 am Wednesday, March 2 at Liberty Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park
