After a valiant battle with cancer Bobby Don Chapman, aged 68, died April 17, 2016 peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
Bobby was born In Shawnee, Oklahoma on January 10, 1948 to Henry Vernon and Mattie LaVerne (Hartsell) Chapman, both of whom preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Shawnee High School and attended the University of Oklahoma. On December 15, 1983 he married Kimberly Ann Peterson. He had served in the USAF and worked as an air traffic controller.
At various times throughout his life he was a member of the Jaycees, Moose Lodge, the Elks Lodge, Professional Air Traffic Controllers and the National Air Traffic Controllers. He had been a member of several churches, including the University Baptist Church in Shawnee, where he was raised.
All the highlights of his life were centered around family. He enjoyed traveling, with Lake Tahoe, Banff-Lake Louise, Colorado, and New England being at the top of the list. He enjoyed traveling to the Masters and the Kentucky Derby. He loved going to Chataque in western NY every year and Saratoga Race Track in upstate NY every couple of years.
He is survived by his wife Kimberly of Shawnee; daughter Kelli Cobarrubias, her husband Jorge and children, Khara, Kahne and Jacob of San Antonio, TX; daughter Kristi Riley, husband Tim and children Karsen & Jackson of Stillwater, OK; sons Britt of Grapevine, TX and Casey of Hutto, TX, Shay and his wife Sara and children Kalyn, Brady & Braxton of Shawnee; sister Carol Mathias of Houma, LA, nephew Mike Mathias of Norman, OK, nieces Joyce Huffman of Pittsburgh, PA and Clare Peterson of Lake Tahoe, CA.
Memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 20 at Walker Funeral Chapel with Robert Beck officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
