Clifford D. (Grumpy) Sikes, World War II Veteran, Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Great Great Grandpa and life-long Shawnee resident left this earth for his Heavenly home on May 18, 2016. Clifford was born February 3, 1922 in Prague, Oklahoma to Charley John and Georgie Marie Sikes. Clifford farmed until 1942 then proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps until 1946 in the 452nd air base squadron. He served three years in the European Theatre and was on his way to Japan when the war ended. On September 16, 1944 he married the love of his life, Helen L. Gibson. They celebrated their 71st anniversary in 2015. To this union were born two sons. Clifford worked at Ford Motor Company for 28 years then retired from Norton Chevrolet as Service Manager. He was an active member and Deacon of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church until his health and age failed him. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed taking his two sons fishing, hunting and going on family vacations. After retiring, he loved traveling, wood working, and collecting antiques. Clifford never met a garage sale he didn't like. He especially loved his three granddaughters and the time they spent together. He taught them to fish, camp, bargain hunt at flea markets, and the importance of going to church. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, Charles E. Sikes of Odessa, Texas and three sisters: Jewell Gist of California, Freda Miller of Pryor, Oklahoma and Geraldine Koenig of Shawnee. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of the home, his two sons and their wives, Clifton and lanette Sikes of Earlsboro, Phillip and lydia Sikes of Oak Harbor, Washington, three granddaughters and their spouses, Jana and Clayton Grubbs of Tecumseh, Heather and Chris Garcia of Florida, and Karen Melton of Oak Harbor, Washington and one sister-in-law, Norma Sikes of Odessa, Texas. There are four great granddaughters, Kayleigh and Chelsea Garcia of Texas, Jordan L. Grubbs of Tecumseh, and Keon J. Sikes of Washington, one great grandson Mikal Sikes of Washington, and a great great grandson, Timothy Sikes of Washington. Other family members are brothers-in-law Reverend Kenneth Gibson of Van Buren, Arkansas, Don Gibson and wife Johnnie of Shawnee, sisters-in-law, Geneva loftis of Shawnee and Thelma Roberts of Muskogee, two special nieces, Gloria lenora Barrett of Seminole and Rita Barton of Shawnee. There are many other nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Clifford will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Services are. to be held Tuesday, May 24th at Walker Funeral Chapel at 2:00pm, officiated by Reverend Kenneth Gibson and Brother Mack Percy. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.
