Alice Rose Haley Beeson

December 20, 1923 — May 29, 2016

The ever-smiling effervescent Alice Rose Haley Beeson was born in Lincoln County north of McLoud December 20, 1923 to Clarence and Jessie (Bird) Haley. She lived her life in and around her hometown. During her teen years she worked at McLoud Telephone Company and a local eatery known as Si’s Café. She was a proud 1943 graduate of McLoud High School. Post graduation she worked for a short time at Kress while staying with an uncle in California. At Kress she earned several pair of nylon hose, bonuses for being the top salesperson on the ‘special for the day.’ She especially enjoyed demonstrating the special sales items to the sailors stationed near Long Beach. But it was to a home-town flame that her heart stayed true. Returning from California, in 1946 Alice Rose married the love of her life, Edgar “Short” Beeson. To that union was born three sons, Corky, Tommie and Freddie. After high school, Alice Rose joined the elite national force of Rosie the Riveters at Douglas Aircraft in Oklahoma City. She later worked ten years for Montgomery Wards and ten years at the Holiday Inn, both in Shawnee. A people person from her youth, Alice Rose enjoyed social organizations. She was a charter member of the Circlet Quilting Club that met for many years in the former Kickapoo School north of McLoud. She was a member of the Kickapoo Canasta Club and was a 62-year member of Eastern Star. She was a charter member of McLoud Historical Society. In keeping with her love for her high school alma mater, Alice Rose coordinated the first McLoud High School Alumni Association reunion, served as president for the first two years and held an office for over 17years. She continued to be a supportive member all her life. When Alice Rose was 13 years old she joined the First United Methodist Church of McLoud. Alice Rose left this world peacefully on Sunday, May 29, 2016. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Edgar “Short” Beeson and son, Edgar “Corky” Beeson. She is survived by her two sons.
