Beloved husband and father, Young Kyu Kim, 71, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2016 after battling Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. A graveside service is scheduled for Friday, July 8, 2016, 10:00 am, at Dale Cemetery, 33610 45th St., Shawnee, OK 74804.
Mr. Kim was born on December 16, 1944 in Heungnam City, North Korea. At the early age of eight, he with his parents and siblings escaped the dictatorship of the North through the help of the US Armed Forces. Having avoided oppression, Mr. Kim made a life in South Korea later with his wife and children. On the fateful day of July 17, 1977, Mr. Kim and his family bravely made a life changing journey to the USA and this year marks the 39th anniversary of the family’s arrival to Shawnee, OK.
Retired from Tinker Airforce Base in 2008 after 22 years of service, Mr. Kim was recognized and awarded on multiple occasions for his ability to develop new procedures that “created monetary savings, quality products, and increased safety for the personnel and weapons system”.
Mr. Kim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kyu Ja Kim, daughter, JooHee Kim, son-in-law, Patrick Forster, granddaughter, Lauren Kim Forster; son HyoSung Kim, grandson, Jaxon Young Kim; and son O’Sung Kim.
