Michael Lynn Mayes

Shawnee resident Michael Lynn Mayes, 67, died Monday, August 8, 2016 in Shawnee, OK. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2016 at Walker Funeral Chapel. Michael was born November 27, 1948 in Hobart, OK, the son of Ray & Inez Mayes. He graduated from Dill City High School in Dill City, OK, and attended college at Cameron University in Lawton, OK. He worked as an insurance claims adjuster. He worked for GAB Robins as an adjuster and branch manager. After retiring, he continued to work as a self-employed claims adjuster. He was married to Cathy (Jones) Mayes for the past 22 years. He was previously married to Judy (Yarbrough) Mayes for 14 years. He served in the Army Reserves as a drill sergeant, where he specialized in wing aircraft repair. Fishing, camping, riding motorcycles and working on them were among his enjoyments, as well as spending time with family and friends. He was a loving husband and father. He touched many lives and was seen by many as a second father. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Judy Yarbrough Mayes, his parents, Ray & Inez Mayes, and 2 brothers Edward & Keith Mayes.
