Robert Theodore Spurlock, 97, of Shawnee, OK, died Tuesday, September 6, 2016 in Oklahoma City, OK.
Memorial Services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Walker Funeral Service Chapel.
Robert T. Spurlock was born November 7, 1918 in Kildare, Oklahoma, the youngest of 5 children to James Arthur and Minnie Eveline Spurlock. His father worked for the Katy Railroad, which meant they moved around a lot, therefore attending grade school in Texas and Missouri. He graduated from high school in New Franklin, Missouri in 1936. Later, at the urging of his dad, he enrolled and graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, OK. It was there he met his future wife, Vivian Arthurs, of Bristow, OK. They were married on February 28, 1942 in OKC, OK. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945, and was involved in tours in France, Italy, Africa, and Germany. After his Honorable Discharge, he came back to Oklahoma and later started working in what would be a 35 year career as a medical/pharmaceutical representative with Lederle Laboratories (now Pfizer) On June 3, 1949, a son was born, Robert T. Spurlock, Jr., in Shawnee. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, and served for at time as a deacon. He liked to play golf with his buddies and once a recorded a hole-in-one. He was a long time member of the Shawnee Elks Lodge.
His family would like to extend a special thanks to his nieces, Betty (Monty) Stricker, Dorris (Wally) Roush, Suzanne (Dub) Osteen, Kathy (Patrick) Wood, and Denise (Danny) Ashley, for their support and dedication throughout his stay in the hospital.
Also special thanks to “the best next door neighbors anyone could have”, to the west, Margaret and Buddy Allen, and to east, Ann and Ronnie Jones. And to his neighbors at the end of the block, Teri and Larry Walker. He truly thought all of you were the greatest and thought he was lucky to have you as neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his 3 sisters: Eveline Spurlock, Doretha Spurlock, and Dorris Whitlock, and a brother: James W. Spurlock.
Survived by his wife of 74 years: Vivian Spurlock of the home,

Grandson: Chris Spurlock,
Great-Grandchildren: Trinity, Kylee and Jordan Beniot,
Kadence Spurlock and Luke Spurlock,
And several nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
