LaJuana Sanders Maddox

LaJuana Gale (Sanders) Maddox, 77, died Friday, September 30, 2016 at her home. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2016 at Abiding Grace Tabernacle (formerly Trinity United Methodist Church) with Rev. Mike DeMoss and Kay Nix officiting. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery. Mrs. Maddox was born June 29, 1939 in Cleveland, OK to Victor Gale and Gracie Sanders. She attended Shawnee Schools and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1957. She married Troy T. Maddox, Jr. on February 22, 1957 and was a lifelong housewife and mother. She moved throughout the country and overseas with her family as Mr. Maddox pursued his military career. Upon their retirement from the military, Mr. Maddox accepted employment at Tinker Air Force Base and the family returned to live in Shawnee, where Mrs. Maddox made her home until her death. Mrs. Maddox was a lifetime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Shawnee and loved crocheting, reading, playing Mexican dominoes on Friday nights and most importantly spending time with her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother and 2 sisters, and son-in-law and a grandson. She is survived by 4 daughters and three sons-in-law: Tracy & Johnny Johnson, Shawnee, OK; Kellie Ellis, Springfield, MO; Terri and Gary Jordan, Shawnee, OK and Karen and Michael Johnson, Prague, OK. Also surviving is a brother Gaylord Sanders, Shawnee, OK and 3 sisters: Audrey Sanders Freeman, Shawnee, OK; Sarah Evelyn Sanders, Shawnee, OK and Elizabeth Sanders Harris, Edmond, OK. Mrs. Maddox is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one on the way, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
