Carolyn Harris-Beck passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family on October 12, 2016. Carolyn was born December 22, 1935 to Della Faye and Vernon Lee Brooking in Carr City, Oklahoma. The oldest of six siblings, Carolyn went to school at Carr City and Pleasant Grove, graduating in 1953. Carolyn’s early work career was in the newspaper business, setting type and proof reading at the Wewoka Newspaper. Wewoka is where she met her first husband of seventeen years and the father of her five children. While living in Tulsa, Carolyn became a licensed real estate agent in 1971. She continued her real estate career after moving to Shawnee in 1973, working with Jim Boynton and W.C. Gouldy. In 1981 Carolyn Harris Realty was born. Carolyn was known for many years as “The Real Estate Lady”. Carolyn is known for having the highest level of professionalism and class by all she worked with. She sold her business in June of 2014 and retired from real estate after 33 years. That business is still thriving today. Carolyn loved singing in the choir at First Christian Church for many years. She was also very involved in many civic capacities, working to establish Project SAFE, on the board of Habitat for Humanity, and a long-time member of Lion’s Club. Carolyn spent many happy years with husband Wesley Beck, who preceded her in death 10 years ago. She loved spending time with her family, and laughing with the little kids. Being very competitive in card and board games, there was no letting the little kids win. She is survived by 5 siblings, Jerry Brooking of Maud, Melvin (Helen) Brooking of Ada, Joyce (Bill) Marsh of San Diego, CA, Doyle (Linda) Brooking of Shawnee, Ken (Ricki) Brooking of Tulsa. She is also survived by 5 Children: Carrie Stokes of Tulsa, Cindy (David) McCormick of Seminole, Charlie (Cathy) Thompson of Shawnee, Connie (Jack) Dockrey of Shawnee, and Cole Thompson of Maud; as well as 9 Grandchildren: Tami, Chandler, Bobby, Elliot, Andrea, Clayton, Brady, Trevor and Leah, and 11 Great-Grandchildren. She will be forever remembered and loved. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 18 at University Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park, under the direction of Walker Funeral Service. To sign the book or share memories on line, visit www.walkerfuneral.com.
