Alfred Vernon Wilkins

Alfred Vernon Wilkins,  96, of Shawnee, OK, died Monday, October 24, 2016 in Meeker, OK. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2016 at  Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur, OK with Rev. Mark Wright officiating.  The family will be at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m.to visit with friends and family.  Memorials may be made in Alfred’s name to the Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, Shawnee, OK.Alfred was born September 25, 1920 in Iona, Murray County, OK to Vernon and Elsie (Hill) Wilkins.   In 1944 he served in the Merchant Marines.  He worked as a pipefitter, and then a Motel owner.  On February 5, 1939 he married the love of his life, Dessie Lorene Worstell.   They were married 67 years before her passing in June 2006.                     He loved gospel singing and his family, and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Shawnee.        He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene, 2 infant daughters, his parents, 6 brothers and sisters, 2 sons-in-law, one sister-in-law, one great grandson. Survived by:   3 Daughters: Linda Farrand, Charlotte Kelly and Anneta Hunt; 6 Grandchildren: Carri Farrand, Clinton & Dresden Farrand, Holly & Lewis Hardee, Kristi & Jeff Carson, Lisa & David Littrell, and Steve & Cindy Hunt;  Great-Grandchildren: Owen, Emory & Ellett Farrand, Taylor Moore, Brittni Criess, Dylan Criess , Spencer Hunt, and Baylee Hunt Cottrell; 5 Great-Great-Grandchildren; 2 Brothers; 1 Sister and Brother-in-Law: Jane & Doyle Worstell; and Special Friend: Nellie Combs.
