Shawnee native Sally Jane (French) Madole, 66, died Wednesday, December 7, from complications of leukemia. She was born in Shawnee, December 29, 1949 to L.V. & Mabel (Ford) French. Sally was educated in Shawnee and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1968. She began her college experience at East Central University where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She graduated from OBU in 1972 with degrees in English and art. Sally lived most of her life in Shawnee, but spent a number of intervening years in Ft Worth, Texas. While raising her children there, she worked for the TCU Athletic Office and formed many lifelong friendships. She married Bill Madole on May 28, 1997, and became an artistic partner in Madole Spurs specializing in spur making, belt buckles, and other decorative western hardware. They especially enjoyed their annual trips to Las Vegas, Houston, Santa Fe and Grand Lake. She and Bill traveled extensively to events and western trade shows forming lasting friendships with many of those who began as customers. Throughout her life, Sally treasured her life-long friends, many dating to Miss Watt’s kindergarten class. In recent years, she very much looked forward to her semi-annual outings with her high school friends. Her last trip was in April immediately preceding her diagnosis. Sally loved gardening, dancing, decorating and baking, especially Mabel’s famous chocolate chip and strawberry cakes and her oatmeal cookies. She is survived by Bill Madole, daughter Kam Belton and grandchildren Katelyn and Bradbury Belton, Fort Worth, Texas; son Kourtney Lewis, Oklahoma City; daughter Shannon Madole and husband, Rick Harper, Edmond; and brother David R. French, Midwest City. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made, in Sally’s name to The Shawnee Community Foundation, 1421 East 45th Street, Shawnee, where the proceeds will be used for the benefit of the volunteers at the Stephenson Cancer Institute Volunteer Program, who provided such meaningful care during her battle. Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 12 at Walker Funeral Chapel.
