Floyd Holbrook, 79, of Shawnee, Oklahoma died December 30, 2016. Floyd was born in Woodville, Oklahoma on April 25, 1937. He was a 1956 graduate from Sulphur High School. After high school Floyd joined the Army Reserves. After his military service he attended East Central University and graduated in 1961 with a degree in Sociology, Economics, and Speech. While in college he met Dinah Jan Maines and they married on October 17, 1959. Floyd began his career in banking and with Arkla Gas as a Sales Engineer. Most of Floyd’s early career was spent as the Executive Director of the Urban Renewal Authority, and Community Development Director. The last 20 years of his career he served as the Executive Director of the Tecumseh Housing Authority. Floyd enjoyed membership in civic organizations. He was a member of the Shawnee Kiwanis Club and the Tecumseh Rotary Club. He was also a life-time member of the Elks. Floyd and Dinah have made Shawnee their home for the last 27 years and are members of the First Baptist Church in Shawnee. Floyd was a family man foremost and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed golf and hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mattie Jamar Holbrook, five brothers, Roland, Doyle, Ray Leon, Thomas, and Kenneth Holbrook and one sister Peggy Holbrook. He is survived by his loving wife, Dinah Holbrook, son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Barbara Holbrook, son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Shelly Holbrook, 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren. Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Shawnee on Wednesday, January 4th at 10:00 am. A private burial will be held for family members. Donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, The American Stroke Foundation or The Salvation Army.
