James "Jim" C. Winterringer

September 30, 1932 — January 7, 2017

James C. “Jim” Winterringer,  84, Shawnee, died Saturday, January 7, 2017 in Shawnee.  Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2017 in the chapel of  Walker Funeral Service with Rev. Amy Busse officiating.  Private family interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Jim was born September 30, 1932 in Shawnee, OK to O.K. and Lavon (Wells) Winterringer of Shawnee, OK.  He was a 1950 graduate of Shawnee High School, graduate of Oklahoma A&M University and a graduate of the University of Oklahoma Law School.  Following graduation from Oklahoma A&M and prior to attending law school, Jim served as an officer in the U.S. Army.  He was married to Sue Lind Schedler Winterringer.Jim was an attorney and Sonic Drive-in Franchise owner.  During his younger years Jim enjoyed growing his law practice and the Wintco Sonic Drive-in business, piloting his own plane, and spending more than 50 fun-filled years with his family at Lake Tenkiller.  In his later years, and prior to his courageous multi-year affliction with Alzheimer’s, Jim enjoyed gardening, walking his dog Chevy, traveling the world, spending extended time in Cabo San Lucas, and working on many, many projects around his home.  Jim was a lifelong active member of the First–United Presbyterian Church of Shawnee, past President of Lions Club International, former Pottawatomie County District Attorney, and member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Holly Winterringer Wood.Jim is survived by his wife, Sue, daughter Gay (and David) Hansen of Tulsa, OK, son Brian (and Candice) Winterringer of Flower Mound, TX, son John Winterringer and Kim Winterringer of Shawnee, grandchildren Dr. William Wood (and Rachel) of Birmingham, AL, Kelby Wood of Los Angeles, CA, Wally (and Courtney) Hansen of Seattle, WA, Kelsey and Connor Winterringer of Shawnee, Caroline (and Eric) Morales of Houston, TX, Michelle Nichols of Dallas, TX, and Amber (and Mike) Stanislawski of Castle Rock, CO, great-grandson William K. Wood, Jr. of Birmingham, AL, sister Kay Whitten of Godfrey, IL, sisters-in-law Diana (and Walter) Jaye of Menlo Park, CA and Lynda Schedler of Colorado Springs, CO, nephews Charles Whitten and Tom (and Nita) Whitten, nieces Andrea (and Josh) Kibe of Louisville, CO and Sonja Schedler of New York City, NY, as well as many other loved family members. In lieu of flowers, contributions are appreciated to the Shawnee Educational Foundation at PO Box 3521 Shawnee OK, 74802 and The Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.  The family would also like to extend their gratitude to the exceptional staff at the Belfair Memory Care Center, Loving Care and LifeSpring Hospice for their attentive care.
