Augusta Albertine Gauchat

May 25, 1926 — January 10, 2017

Augusta Albertine (Quidas) Gauchat, 90, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at an Oklahoma City hospital with her family by her side. She was born May 25, 1926 to Frank James and Emma Marie (Frase) Quidas on a farm near Riverhead, Long Island, New York. Augusta attended Riverhead High School and completed her Registered Nursing degree in 1947 at Norwegian Lutheran Deaconesses' Home and Hospital in Brooklyn, New York as part of the United States Cadet Nurse Core. While there, she met her husband Dr. August Charles Gauchat. They were married November 22, 1947 and moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma in 1952. August set up his medical practice in Shawnee at the ACH Hospital while Augusta dedicated her life to her children and home. She enjoyed volunteering as a Pink Lady at Shawnee Medical Center (now St. Anthony's Hospital) and belonged to the Pottawatomie County Medical Auxiliary. She had an unwavering faith in God and was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She enjoyed genealogy, reading and jigsaw puzzles. Augusta inspired her family in their Christian faith, leaving behind a legacy of wisdom and wit that will be missed. Augusta was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister-in-law, Rosa Lee Harding, and two brothers-in-law, Sterling Woodhull and Vernon Guild. She is survived by daughters Sandra Kenworthy of Shawnee, Rhonda Klopfenstein and husband Phil of Shawnee, Lynne Tackett and husband Bruce of little Elm, Texas; son Roger Gauchat of Irving, Texas. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Heather Vela (Daniel) of Texas, Jason Cameron (Kelley) of Florida, Chris Kenworthy of California, Teri Jones (Kevin) of Colorado, Paul Klopfenstein (Tricia) of Stillwater, Jennifer Whitney (Rob) of Texas, Nick Tackett of Texas, Eric Gauchat (Ashley) of Arkansas, David Gauchat of Shawnee, Justin Gauchat (Robin) of Shawnee; 19 loving great-grandchildren and one very special four-year-old great-great-granddaughter Rosalie of Georgia. She also leaves behind two sisters, Elizabeth Woodhull and Albertine Guild of New York and one brother-in-law, Ken Harding of Texas. Services will be held at Walker Funeral Service Chapel on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 10:00am with Reverend Kristopher Tate of St. Paul's United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Walker Funeral Service is handling the funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 301 North Beard Ave., Shawnee, Oklahoma 74801.
