Dwayne L. Slate

Dwayne L. Slate, 72, of Shawnee, OK, went to his eternal home with our Lord on Tuesday, January 31, 2017. Dwayne was born on Jan 10, 1945, in Altus, OK to Paul and Ethel (Loman) Slate. He graduated from Dale High School in 1963.  He worked on the OG&E line crew before starting his career at Tinker AFB as an electrician.  He spent some years in electrical engineering before becoming a supervisor in the maintenance division and retired as the Preventative Maintenance Branch Chief in Jan 1995. Dwayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, riding his 4-wheeler and his Harley. He could fix anything; and he loved creating and building "Slate and Decker" things. He always wanted to help everyone, yet would never ask for help himself. He was a very talented and hard-working man. Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.  He is survived by his wife of 36 years, LeAnn, of the home; daughter Sheri Moran and grandchildren Summer and Nic Moran; daughter Kari Gowland and husband Erik; granddaughter Catie Malone and husband Colton and great grandchildren Bryton and Breelynn Malone; brother and sister-in-law Gary and Becky Slate; niece Amber Lang and great niece and nephew Madilyne and Zayne; extended family members and tons of friends.Dwayne was a wonderful husband, Daddy, Papa, Brother, Uncle, Friend and "Fixer".  He will be greatly missed by so many. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 4, at Sharon Baptist Church in Shawnee, followed by burial at Dale Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions to Sharon Baptist Church or the charity of your choice in honor of Dwayne.
