Vivian A. Spurlock

November 14, 1917 — January 28, 2017

Vivian A. Spurlock passed away at her home January 28, 2017.  She was the youngest child of Walter L. and Henrietta Arthurs, and was born on the family farm in Cross Roads, Arkansas on November 14, 1917.  At the age of three she moved with her parents, sisters and brother to Bristow, OK.  As she grew up in Bristow she attended Bristow Pubic Schools and graduated from Bristow High School.  She later enrolled at and graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU).  It was there that she met and married her husband and soulmate of seventy-four and a half years, Robert (Bob) T. Spurlock. They were married on February 28, 1942 in Oklahoma City at the First Baptist Church.  After a four year stint in the USA military, Bob came home and was a pharmaceutical salesman, and Vivian & Bob moved to Shawnee.  They had one child, a son, Robert (Robby) T. Spurlock, Jr.  After being a stay at home Mom, in 1967 she began her career as a sophomore English teacher at Shawnee High School.  After 14 years she retired and she and Bob went to Europe and then pretty much stayed at home in Shawnee.Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sisters Grace Arthurs, Ruth Hankins Mizzell; Brother J.B. Arthurs, niece Rita Jo Yerdon, nephews Dennis Hankins, Randy Hankins and Jimmy Arthurs. She is survived by her son, Rob Spurlock of the home and Oklahoma City; Granddaughters: Angie Spurlock, Tracy Spurlock Benoit and husband Justin; Grandson: Chris Spurlock; Great-Granddaughters: Trinity Benoit, Kylee Benoit, Jordan Benoit, Kadence Spurlock, and Great Grandson: Luke Spurlock, all of Theodore, Alabama; Nieces: Betty (Monty) Stricker, Kathy (Patrick) Wood, Doris (Wally) Rouslt, Kim (Gary) Boggs, Suzanne (Dub) Osteen, Denise (Danny) Asltles; Nephew: Monty J. Stricker, Jr. and cousin Stewart Arthurs.A special thank you to Dolores, her caregiver for the last three months, and the family would like to recognize the neighbors who became close friends, Margret and Buddy Allen, Ann and Ronnie Jones, and Teri and Larry Walker. All of you meant so much to Mom and Dad and my family, and you are appreciated more than you could ever know.Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2017 at Walker Funeral Chapel.
