Myrna L. Drake

May 23, 1938 — February 16, 2017

Myrna Loy Schneider Drake left this earthly home for her heavenly reward on February 16, 2017 while residing at The Village Nursing Center in Broken Arrow, OK. She was born on May 23, 1938 in Frisco, Oklahoma to Ellis and Velma Schneider. Myrna attended Elementary School in Harden City and Junior High and High School at McLish, just outside of Ada. At McLish, she played basketball and was involved in the drama and music departments receiving numerous “Best Actress” awards in school plays. Myrna began corresponding with a young sailor, Orville Drake, the nephew of her pastor. After 2 years of corresponding by letter, Myrna and Orville finally met after Orville received his honorable discharge from the Navy. It was love at first sight. Following a five month courtship, they were married on October 28, 1955. The Drakes were blessed with two sons, Randell Orville, born April 19, 1958 and Ronald Keith, born March 17, 1960. In 1982, both sons were married in ceremonies only 3 weeks apart and Myrna was blessed with two daughters-in-love, Michelle and Crystal. Myrna was employed for over 20 years with the Shawnee Public Schools as a cashier, cook and teacher’s assistant. She worked part-time for Hallmark Greetings Cards for over 30 years. Following her retirement, the Drakes moved to Lake Eufala in 2002. Myrna was an avid sports fan and athlete. She bowled on city leagues for over 35 years and participated in 24 National Bowling Tournaments, 34 Oklahoma State Bowling Tournaments and 35 City Bowling Tournaments. Myrna coached her two sons in a junior bowling league. Myrna was active in the International Pentecostal Holiness Church as a member, Women’s Ministries Officer, Sunday School teacher, youth director and choir member for her entire life. In her early years, Myrna sang Gospel music with her sister, Carol, at various church rallies and revivals and on KADA radio and Channel 10 TV in Ada. Myrna loved the Lord with all of her heart. She adored her grandchildren and, recently, was elated to have 2 great-granddaughters born into the Drake family. Myrna enjoyed crafts and making gifts for friends and family. She was a master dessert maker with her family and church favorites: coconut cream pie, chocolate chiffon pie and marshmallow chocolate gooey cake. Myrna made homemade fried pies and cooked bean dinners as fundraisers for her church. Before she was married, Myrna asked God to send a Christian man to her to be her husband and God answered her prayer by saving the man of her dreams as she sang “Troublesome Waters” at church one Saturday night while they were dating. She was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost at the age of nine in a revival with Dr. Dan Beller. Myrna is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Ellis; three sisters, Mary, Lorene and Marie; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Etta and Floyd Duncan. Myrna is survived by her husband, Orville; two sons, Randell and wife, Michelle, of Broken Arrow, OK and Ron and wife, Crystal, of Oklahoma City, OK; four grandsons, Chris, Taylor and wife Ashlie, Addison and Evan; three special blessing grandkids, Harmony, Allison and Trevor; sister Carol Bailey and husband, Kelly; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, family members and friends. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2017 at the Downtown Pentecostal Holiness Church with Bishop Randell O. Drake, Rev. Ron Baldridge and Rev. John Youell officiating.  Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park, under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.  The family will be at the funeral home Sunday, February 19, from 4-6 pm to visit with friends and family.  The casket is not opened and will not be opened at the church.  Memorials may take the form of contributions to New Horizons Ministries, designated for Women’s Ministries & Youth Camp, 3905 S.
