Helen R. Wilburn

Helen R. Wilburn,  84, of Shawnee, died Sunday, February 26, 2017 in Shawnee.Services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Walker Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association,  alz.org Helen Roberta Wilburn was born January 30, 1933 in Meeker, Oklahoma to Herman Thomas O’Neal and Roberta (Carlton) O’Neal. She attended Pleasant Grove High School in Seminole where she played on the girls basketball team.  On May 31, 1953 she married Lloyd D. Wilburn.   Helen went to work as a telephone operator with Southwestern Bell before becoming a bookkeeper for several oil companies around Seminole.  She spent 20 years working for Jerry Scott Drilling before retiring.   Helen and her husband, Lloyd, loved to travel.  They traveled on bus tours with a group of Bell Telephone Pioneers.  They toured every state except for Wisconsin and Alaska.  Helen loved sitting in her recliner, watching the squirrels and birds along with her dog, Woody.  She took care of her 2 grand babies from the time they were born, til they both graduated from Shawnee High School.  She was an avid fan of the OU Sooners football and basketball teams, along with the OKC Thunder, the Dallas Cowboys and the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.  Helen was that crazy aunt that all her nieces and nephews loved to be around.  She loved God and going to church.  Helen was a member of Praise Assembly in Shawnee.     She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers: Carl, Bob, and Tommy O’Neal. Survived by:   Husband: Lloyd Wilburn of Shawnee; 2 Sons: Dennis Wilburn of Shawnee, Steve Wilburn and wife Tammy of Shawnee; 2 Grandsons: Tyler Wilburn and wife Kaylee of Shawnee, Blaine Wilburn of Edmond; and several nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
