September 18, 1980 — March 10, 2017

Melissa Kay Wallace Lane, 36, of Shawnee, OK passed away on Friday, March 10, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 15 at Trinity Baptist Church, 1315 N. McKinley Ave., Shawnee, OK. Melissa is survived by her husband and soulmate, David “Shawn” Lane, her seven children: Tim Lane and fiancee’ Savanah, Dylan Koon and longtime girlfriend, Ashlyn, Kenzie Koon, Lexi Koon, Brandon Lane, Jeremiah “Bullfrog” Lane and Aithon Lane, her father, Larry Wallace, Sr., three brothers and sisters-in-law: Larry & Brandi Wallace, Mike and Holly Wallace, John Wallace and Melissa Scott, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rick and Sherri Nyte, mother-in-law, Ellen Nyte, grandparents, Robert and Phyllis Lane, longtime best friend Sarah Gee and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Melissa was preceded in death by her sweet momma, Anita and her grandparents. She was born September 18, 1980.  In 1998 she graduated from Shawnee High School.  She attended college at the University of Phoenix. Throughout her life she worked mostly in health care.  She worked as a medical assistant, tech, activities director, and most recently in social services at Shawnee Colonial Estates.  She had a knack for serving others and it showed in her work. Melissa accomplished a lot and touched many people throughout her short life.   She never met a stranger and was a friend to all.  She enjoyed helping others and “walked the walk.”  She lived out Matthew 25:35, “I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger, and you took me into your home.”  She loved serving others, whether it be through fund raising, fostering children and adoption.  She loved Jesus and put her faith in him. Melissa was a joyful person and loved to laugh and make others laugh.  She could be mischievous and silly.  Her laugh was contagious.  Melissa tried to make the best of the hand she was dealt.  She often quoted Psalm 118:24, “this is the day that the Lord hath made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.”  She quoted this scripture even on some of her hardest days. Melissa lived life to the fullest, loved without reason and encouraged other to do the same.  She loved OU football, Thunder basketball, music, cheeseburgers, ‘front porch sittin’ (possibly for story telling material), and having fun with family and friends.  Her greatest joy in life was being a wife and momma.  Melissa was open and honest, and shared her life stories and faith.  Here is an example of her sharing her heart and her love for Jesus and others in her own words:             “It’s all in God’s hands…there is always something to be thankful for, no matter your situation. I know that God will heal me, whether it be on earth or in heaven. I love all of you and I am glad that I am an inspiration to some of you.  I’ve said, if I can lead one person to Christ though all of this, then I have done what God wanted me to do.” She went on to pray for others who were suffering, all the while, suffering herself. Melissa was a true eternal optimist. She saw the glass half full.  Not to say she didn’t struggle or have bad days. But, she had more good days than bad, and tried to keep a smile on her face.  If you spent much time with her you would know, one of her favorite things to say was, “Smile, those thangs are contagious!”
