Alpha Allen Farrow

Reverend Alpha Allen Farrow, Colonel Chaplain, U.S. Army, passed away Friday, October 2, 2020 in Norman, Oklahoma. Born November 30, 1924 in Lindsay, Oklahoma, he attended Central State College while serving with the Edmond Fire Department.

In WWII he served as a private in the 10th Mtn Division/ 96th Regiment Mountain Infantry, 1943-45. He graduated from OBU, as well as Golden Gate Seminary in May 1952, where he was ordained as a minister. He was called back to the U.S. Army for the Korean Conflict where he began his Chaplaincy. Afterwards he served in Japan, with the occupation forces Sanyo; Ft. Lewis, Washington 1957-59; Bad Tolz, FDR. NCO Academy & 10 Special Forces Group 1959-61; Pedricktown, New Jersey 1962-64; Fort Sill, Oklahoma 1964-66; 106th General Hospital. Kishine, Japan 1966-68; 199th Light Infantry BDE, Republic of Vietnam 1968-69; Fort Eustis, Virginia 1970-72; and Fort McClellan, Alabama 1972-74. He retired from U.S. Army, Chaplain Corps, Colonel. He received the following: Legion of Merit; Bronze Star with 3 bronze oak leave clusters V device; Meritorious Service Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster; Army Commendation Medal; Meritorious Unit Commendation; American Campaign Medal; European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal; World War 2 Victory Medal; National Defense Service Medal with one bronze service star; Korean Service Medal with 4 bronze service stars; Vietnam Service Medal with 1 silver service star; United Nations Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with device; and the Korea Defense Service Medal. He served as pastor at Hazel Dell Baptist Church, and hospital chaplain at Shawnee Medical Center.

Al enjoyed raising cattle and llamas on his small ranch in Johnson, Oklahoma. He was the deputy mayor and founder of the Johnson community, as well as a member at University Baptist and First Baptist Church while supporting the ministry at Sallateeska Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his father, Jess G. Farrow, his mother Elizabeth (Katie Holt) Farrow, his sisters Nell and Ruth; his first wife, Lois (Haddock) Farrow, and son Jeffery Farrow.

He is survived by his wife Sherry, son Craig Farrow, daughter Beverly & husband Jack Stiles, step-daughters Shannon (Chris) Griggs and Robin (Darin) Greene, and numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
