Shawnee resident Barbara J. (Bobbie) Thompson, 90, died Sunday, January 14, 2018 in Shawnee. Bobbie was born February 8, 1927 in Snyder, Oklahoma to Thomas J Beason and Sarah Hammons Beason. After her family had moved to Tribbey, Oklahoma in the early 1940s, she came to Shawnee to work and attend school. She graduated Shawnee High School in 1945. She married James W Thompson on June 14, 1947 in Shawnee. She worked much of her life as a homemaker. She worked at Moody’s and Sears and several other stores downtown. She loved anything she could imagine with her mind and make with her hands - flower gardening, crafts, woodworking - and was an amazing seamstress. She taught Sunday school encouraging young people and had a passion to touch peoples' hearts sharing the gospel. She was an active member in church and had attended Liberty Baptist Church since 1970. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her 10 brothers and sisters, and by her husband in 2005. Survivors include her children: her son Phil Thompson her daughter and son-in-law Susan and Tommy Harmon her grandchildren Kelli and Eric VanGilder, Bixby Brad and Lisa Harmon, Edmond Ian VanGilder, Jacob VanGilder, Noelle Harmon, Evan Harmon many wonderful nieces and nephews, special friends and loved ones, and her church family.Special thanks to Rose Manor Nursing, Avonlea Cottage, Heartland Hospice and everyone who loved and helped her. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Liberty Baptist Church. Memorial will be 2 pm Tues Jan 23 @ Liberty Baptist Church.
