BERTHA “NANNY” LITTLETON Bertha “Nanny” Littleton, 81, passed away Tuesday, August 4 at her home in Tecumseh.
She was born September 27, 1938 in Shamrock, OK to Charley and Beulah (McKnee) Pickard. She grew up the youngest of 4 on the Lazy G Dairy between Prague and Meeker. She attended Prague and Meeker schools, and graduated from Meeker High School. She loved to play basketball. She married William “Butch” Littleton in October 1969. They moved to Tecumseh to raise her step- daughter Michelle.
Butch and Bertha prided themselves in family and faith. They felt God leading them to become foster parents to teenage boys. She worked at Sylvania until they welcomed Ruth in June of 1971. She and Butch decided she would stay at home and raise their family. She took pride in her family. As time passed, they welcomed many people into their life as family. They began attending 1st Assembly of God in Tecumseh, where they were very active members. With nearly 24 years of a wonderful marriage and a 7 month fight with cancer, Butch went to heaven in January 1994. Bertha continued to stay family focused. She diligently took care of Butch, her parents, two sisters and a brother-in-law. She grew very active in 2 of her grandchildren’s lives, with whom she lived with. There was only a handful of school activities and sports of Kyle and Rynae’s that she was not involved. Everyone knew who Nanny was and she loved them all dearly.
After they both left home she decided she needed to work, so when the opportunity arose, she started working at Liberty School cafeteria on her 71st birthday. She worked there until Spring Break of this year. She was known for always being fast paced, eating and smiling. She was always involved in Khloe and Caylan’s lives, and most recently her youngest, CJ.
This May she was diagnosed with terminal cancer, she then decided to make the most of her time with family and great friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Butch, her parents and her two sisters, Lurlene and Nadine.
She leaves behind a brother, Everett Pickard, daughter & son-in-law, Ruth & Doug West, step-daughter Michelle Tapp, and grandchildren: Kyle & Tiffany, Rynae & Steven, Kristin, Billy and Erika; great-grandchildren: Khloe, Caylan, and CJ; and her great- grand doggers: Cinnamon, Nona, Claus and Chase. She had many friends, including her two best friends Alvina Gladio and Carolyn Fitter.
