Shawnee resident Bobby Cannon, 89, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Bob was born December 24, 1933 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Jack and Thelma (Hixon) Cannon. He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1952 and joined the United States Army where he served from 53’ to 55’ and was stationed in Sanpigny, France. He then served in the National Guard. He later earned a Bachelor’s degree from O.U. He married Martha (Lopez) May 29, 1997 and they were blessed with two boys, Jack and Anthony Cannon.
Bob lived a very interesting life that took him all over the world but he always considered Shawnee home. He began his career as a rough neck in the oil field and retired as a superintendent having worked in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Southern California, and Norway, where he retired. He enjoyed art, painting, classical music, studying Spanish, traveling, was an avid church goer and great husband, father and athlete.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Wandel Black and Carolyn and Jack Nowlin, and nieces, Kathy (Duvall) Arnold and Cheryl Benton.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Cannon of the home; two sons, Jack and Anthony of the home; a sister, Karla Cannon Matthews of Sparks; a niece, Nancy Casper of Denver, CO; nephews, Jay Nowlin of Shawnee, Jeffrey Rosamond of Sparks, Jim Benton of Houston, and Valerie Benton of Shawnee; a niece, Krystal Rosamond of Sparks; in-laws in Columbia, Clara, Olga, Michael, Vicky, Amanda Lopez Torres and serval nephews.
A graveside ceremony will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee, OK.
