Carol “Sue” Race, formerly of Shawnee, passed away Friday, October 7, 2022, in Norman, Oklahoma. Born in Stilwell, Oklahoma on September 5, 1939, Sue was the youngest of five siblings born to Delmer and Zelma Foster. Her father died unexpectedly when Sue was two years old, leaving her mother a widow with five children. Sue’s mother ran a cafe to provide for her family and many of Sue’s early years were spent at the cafe. Through her mother’s example, Sue learned the importance of faith, family, and hard work. As a devoted wife and mother, Sue was a living example of unconditional love and loyalty. She and her beloved husband, Dick, provided their three daughters with a life-long example of commitment to marriage and family. They moved from Shawnee to Norman in 2003 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Their daughters are eternally grateful for the gift of loving parents. Sue was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Shawnee, and attended McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Norman. Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick” Race, her parents and siblings. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in- law, Debbie and Bill McConnell, Lynne and Mark McGuire, Leslie and Tyler LaReau, all of Norman; granddaughter and husband, Lindsay and Jon Hawkins, grandson and wife, Clay and Chandra McConnell, granddaughters Morgan Bynum, Meredith Brown and her husband Hunter, Emma LaReau, Maggie McGuire, and Claire LaReau and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be Friday October 14, 10:00 a.m. at the Tecumseh Cemetery under the care of Walker Funeral Home of Shawnee with Rev. Rockford Johnson officiating. Sue’s daughters want to thank the caring and loving staff at Arbor House Assisted Living and Reminisce Memory Care of Norman for their care and support over the last three years.
