Charles Rufus Kimbrough, resident of Carson, CA, passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021. He was 81 years old. Charles was born in Broken Bow, Oklahoma on August 22, 1940 to his parents, Charles and Flavra Kimbrough. Chuck, as he was known by friends and family, graduated from Shawnee High School as part of the graduating class of 1958. Chuck worked on ships all of his life. He served in the Navy stationed at Alameda Naval Base in Oakland, CA where he served aboard the Aircraft Carrier, USS Ranger. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Chuck moved to the south bay area in Los Angeles county. He began working for Syd Carpenter Marine Contractor where he worked on ships mostly in the engine rooms where he would make installation pads of different shapes and sizes to wrap around steam pipes which reduces the heat in the engine rooms. One of Chuck's favorite hobbies was shuffleboard. He was one of the top table top shuffleboard players in the United States. He loved fishing and made many great memories fishing with his son. Chuck enjoyed spending time with family and was known for his generosity around Christmas time. Everyone usually received an amazing gift from him! Charles was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Anne Sanchez. Chuck is survived by his son, Charles L. Kimbrough of Carson, CA, sister, Carolyn Dixson of Shawnee, brother-in-law, Joe Sanchez, and nephews, Steve Snow and Don Sanchez. A funeral ceremony will be held at the Walker Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee with military honors provided by the United States Navy. Viewing will be held on Monday January 24th until 6:00 pm.
