Charles Edward Morton, Jr., age 73 of Shawnee, walked through the gates of Heaven on October 5, 2017, after a long and courageous 8 year battle against colon cancer. Charles was born in Shawnee, OK, the only son of Charles E. Morton, Sr. and Leota Mae (Key) Morton. He attended schools in both St. Louis and Seminole, graduating from Seminole High School in 1963, and proudly entered the United States Air Force in June of 1964, serving most of his time as a military police K-9 handler. He was stationed at RAF Woodbridge in Ipswitch England. He was honorably discharged in 1967 and went on to obtain college degrees from Seminole State College and Northwestern State College. He began his career in law enforcement at Seminole Police Department in 1968 and retired at the rank of Captain from Shawnee Police Department in 1988. Charles went on to enjoy 23 years as an Investigator with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission before retiring in 2013. He was preceded in Heaven by his parents, one sister, Wanda Fox, and one niece, Vanessa Defriese. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 42 years, Regena, his son, Jeffrey of Spokane, Washington, his daughter & son-in-law, Natalie & William Arnett of Shawnee, three grandchildren, Meagan, Dawson & Sophie Arnett of Shawnee. Also two sisters and one brother-in-law, Patricia Defriese of Denver, CO and Sue & George Hanohano, of Moore, his best friends, Frank Duke Bryant of Shawnee, Bruce Johnson of Ada, and his faithful Great Dane, Sweetie, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Charles was loved by many. He was a devoted husband, father and proud grandfather. Honesty and integrity were hallmarks of his life. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord & Savior at the age of 15 and was a member of Romulus Baptist Church, but attended Rock Creek Baptist Church with his family. When not supporting his grandchildren at a dance recital, or sporting event, he enjoyed movies, music, reading, and loved to travel. The family wishes to thank Dr. Aleda Toma and her staff at both Shawnee and Oklahoma City locations, as well as Patti Norris, RN and the staff of Heartland Hospice, Shawnee. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to designate S.P.A.R. (Saving Pets At Risk) P.O. Box 702, Shawnee, OK 74802, and/or Heartland Hospice of Shawnee, 2802 N. Kickapoo, Shawnee, OK 74804, as appropriate for memorials. The family will be at the funeral home Monday evening from 5-7 pm to visit with friends and family. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
