Former Shawnee resident Cherilyn Joyce Allen passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2021 in Plano, Texas. Funeral services will be at Walker Funeral Service Chapel in Shawnee, Oklahoma on Monday, May 10, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. with burial following at Holdenville Cemetery, Holdenville, Oklahoma. Viewing will take place on Sunday, May 9, 2021 from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Service. Joyce, as most everyone called her, was born March 28, 1945 in Enterprise, Oklahoma to Bertie and Eunice Hays. She worked most of her life in the restaurant industry while raising her seven children. She then pursued a bachelor’s degree and career in Early Childhood education. Joyce enjoyed cooking, crocheting, attending church service, and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her three brothers. She is survived by her seven children: Laurinda Ellis of Oklahoma, Ginger Brooks of Shawnee, OK, Steven Ellis and wife Sherry of O’Brien, TX, Carla Mitchell and husband Tommy of Summerfield, NC, Maria Holleman of Oklahoma City, OK, Sammy Holleman and wife Kimberly of Shawnee, OK, and Donita Vinduska and husband Zacharia of Little Elm, TX; 20 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sister Joanna Smith of Tulsa; and numerous other family and friends.
