Former Shawnee resident Connie June Bowers, 81, passed away comfortably and surrounded by her family on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at her home in Oklahoma City.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Walker Funeral Service Chapel, with Larry Walker officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to Wounded Warrior or the American Cancer Society. These were Connie’s favorite charities that she supported.
Connie was born November 5, 1938 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Elzie Roosevelt “E.R.” Gilley and Letha Kemmon (Frost) Gilley. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1957, where she was Drum Majorette in the marching band. On April 11, 1958, she married Jim Bowers. They were married for 61 years. Connie worked in the medical field for 37 years at Mission Hill Hospital, starting as a lab and radiology technician. She advanced to the position of Department Head of Radiology, continuing to work in ultrasound. She was faithful to God, family and country. She was devoted to her family, always supporting her children and grandchildren in both sports and school activities. She was similarly devoted to her friends, constantly volunteering both her time and resources to help whenever she could. She loved the outdoors, spending vast amounts of time at the lake to tube, fish, camp, and water ski. She was an avid fan of the Oklahoma City Thunder and Oklahoma Sooners.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant brother: Rex Cecil Gilley, and her niece: Brooke Gilley.
She is survived by her Husband: Jim Bowers of the home, 2 Children: Ty Bowers and wife Josette of Los Angeles, CA, Tracy Simon of Norman, 3 Grandchildren: Sam Bowers of Los Angeles, Lukas Bowers of Los Angeles, Torie Simon of Norman, 2 Brothers: Paul Gilley and wife Margaret of Eufaula, Glenn Gilley of OKC, Several nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
