Garroutte, Dakota J., age 28, Shawnee resident, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2022, at his home. A memorial ceremony to celebrate Dakota's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 10, 2022, in the chapel at Walker Funeral & Cremation Service. Following the ceremony, he will be laid to rest at the Tecumseh Cemetery. Dakota was born on September 5, 1994, to Kelly Dean Garroutte and Angel (Hamilton) Kirk in Ponca City, Oklahoma. He was raised in Ponca City before moving to Shawnee at age 12. After moving to Shawnee, Dakota attended Shawnee Schools. Dakota had a love for music. He spent time listening to, writing, producing, and performing music. As a studious young man, Dakota spent much of his free time pouring over his Bible and inspiring others to do the same. Above all else, Dakota was a caring individual who would do anything he could for others, even though his own abilities were limited at times. His presence will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him. Survivors include his beloved mother Angel Kirk and husband Brian of Shawnee, father Kelly D. Garroutte of Ponca City, paternal grandfather Dean Garroutte (Papaw) and wife Sherlyn (Memaw) of Estes Park, Colorado, paternal grandmother Diane Christensen of Ponca City, and Grandpa Freddie Gonzales; sister, Jenna Potter of Stillwater, brothers: Christian Potter of Shawnee, Creed Garroutte of Ponca City; aunts and uncles: T.C. and Ashley Fetters, Marty and Jill Tipton, Dallas Tipton, James and Krista Robertson, Robbie and Nicole Kirk, Louis Gonzales, Mariah Gonzales; girlfriend Skyler Steward as well as numerous cousins and friends. Dakota was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James William Hamilton, Evelyn Hamilton Jobe and Larry Lee Jobe, Grandma Debra Gonzales and aunt, Sharon Hamilton.
