Daniel Porter McMains, age 34, of Shawnee, formerly of Seminole, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on Sunday, November 5, 2017. He was born September 29, 1983 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the 4th of four children born to Larry Jay McMains and Cynthia Ann “Hammons” McMains. Daniel was born with a rare genetic disease, severe combined immune deficiency, and was the youngest child ever to receive an unmatched bone marrow transplant. His donor was his mother, Cynthia. He would continue to battle this disease and related complications for the rest of his life. However, Daniel was undeterred by these health challenges, involving himself in numerous extracurricular activities, and eventually graduating as Seminole High School class of 2002 Salutatorian. After high school he attended Oklahoma Baptist University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration and finance. In high school, college and beyond, Daniel excelled in tennis, golf, and ping pong. You can find evidence of his love for ping pong when you visit his Edward Jones office where a regulation sized ping pong table is prominently displayed. It was while attending OBU that Daniel met the love of his life, Cristen Longacre. She actually discovered him first, when, as a high school senior, she came to visit her sister, and watched Daniel perform at OBU’s spring follies. He must have been pretty good because she promptly announced to her sister that she had met the man she was going to marry. Cristen was a girl of her word, and they were married on August 5, 2006 in Frederick, and they established their home in Shawnee, Oklahoma, where Daniel took a job with Edward Jones as a financial consultant. Daniel’s quiet confidence and hard work endeared him to his clients. Edward Jones, in recognition of his efforts, rewarded Daniel with some very special trips which will provide precious memories for his family. In 2010 Daniel became a father, when Hudson, his first of three sons, was born. Two more sons, Brooks and Baylor, would follow. Daniel’s love for his family was evident to all, as was his commitment to raising his boys to know and love the Lord Jesus Christ. Daniel faithfully attended and worshiped at Immanuel Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and, together with his wife Cristen, enjoyed ministering to college students. Daniel possessed an inner strength that impacted people. He was a great friend and encouragement to many. In the last 4 years of his life, Daniel’s health began to deteriorate more rapidly. He endured extreme pain and hardship. Through it all, Daniel remained steadfast in his commitment to his Lord and his family. Praise God he is healed in heaven with his Lord and Savior!
