Darlene A. Rogers

Our beloved mother and grandmother made her final journey on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 passing peacefully listening to her childhood stories. She was never one to make anything about herself. In true character, she waited for a winter storm to meet her Lord. Her family was always her greatest treasure.

Darlene was born on May 23, 1938 to Lawrence LaMonte and Nada Agnes White Buffalo Chief in a tent on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. She attended Holy Rosary Boarding School from kindergarten to 11th grade and completed her education at Oglala Community College. She joined the U.S. Navy and began her life adventures. She moved to Oklahoma where she laid roots and raised her children. She was a proud member of the Oglala Lakota Tribe.

She was a member of St. Benedict Church since 1963. As a devoted Catholic, she was involved in many ministries including religious education, Birthday Girls, Altar Society and Cheese Group with Sara, as well as a volunteer at the carnival. She made her Cursillo in 1982 and ACTS in 2014.

She received her LPN in 1973 from Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech. She retired from Shawnee IHS in 1982. Taking her career to hospitals, nursing homes, and home health. Her passion for caring for others was passed on to her son (Buck and daughter-in-law Cathy) and eventually pinning her granddaughter (Lauren) all graduating from Gordon Cooper Practical Nurse Programs.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed journaling, word searches, and the local library. She shared her love for old Westerns with everyone who visited. She loved OU football, the Dallas Cowboys, and the OKC Thunder. When she found time, she crocheted and watched the birds outside her window. Blue was her favorite color.

Mostly, she loved being a Nanny, giving everyone nicknames, always unique and lovingly accepted by each of her babies. She was devoted to her Lord spending hours daily praying for others selflessly.

Preceding her in death are her son, Robby, parents, brother, Lawrence (Buddy), sisters, Nada, Cheyenne, Lou, Babe, and Mickey, and grandson, Caleb.

Left to carry on her strengths and love are daughters, Lynn Neumann and Sandie Rogers, son, Alan (Buck) Rogers and wife Cathy, special great-granddaughter, Chastity Murdock, grandchildren: Ashley Engle, Daron Franklin, Lauren Hughes, Michael Franklin, Robby Rogers, Sara Ellis, Caitlyn Franklin, and Jacob LaMonte, plus her amazing 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous other extended family members and spouses.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Benedict Project Gabriel.
