Darrel Eugene Manlapig

Darrel Eugene Manlapig, a cherished member of the community and beloved family man, passed away on December 8, 2024, at the age of 86. Born on February 27, 1938, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Darrel dedicated his life to his family and leaves a lasting impact on his grandchildren.

Darrel's academic journey began at the University of Central State, where he earned a teaching degree. Later, he pursued further education in California, attaining an engineering degree that began a successful career in that field.

Darrel enjoyed various hobbies throughout his life, including deep sea fishing, watching and attending OU football games, and engaging in stock market investing, reflecting his zest for life and adventure. His faith played a significant role in his life as well; he was a devoted member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where he found a sense of community and purpose.

A devoted family man, Darrel is survived by his son, Michael Manlapig and wife, Julie; his son, Phillip Manlapig; and his daughter, Peggy Tanishita and husband, Rick. He took immense pride in his grandchildren: Corey Tanishita, Hayley Tanishita, Kamryn Manlapig, and Mitchell Manlapig, and great-granddaughter, Ivy Melling each of whom brought joy and light to his life. Darrel also leaves behind cousins, Larry Taaca and Thoma Taaca, and step-brother, Vernon Copeland who remember him fondly.

Darrel was predeceased by his loving wife, JoAnn Manlapig, who was his partner in every sense of the word, his parents, Joe and Velma Manlapig, and his step-brother, Vernon Manlapig.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so on Sunday, December 29, 2024 from 12-6 pm with family present to greet friends from 3-5 pm. A funeral ceremony will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024 at 10:00 am at the Walker Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee.
