Daylene "Dale" Kalanialohaikauinohea Cockett-Claytor was born on November 23, 1930 in Molokai, Hawaii. She departed her earthly life on April 23, 2023 in Shawnee, Oklahoma at the age of 92.
She became a member of the Free will Baptist Church in Earlsboro on 22nd day of April, 2012 having been baptized on the 4th day of November 1934 at St. Andrews Cathedral Church, Honolulu.
Daylene attended elementary, jr. high, high school and junior college in Honolulu as well as Oklahoma State University, studying hotel restaurant management.
She met Denver Lee Claytor, Sr., a member of the US Army in Hawaii and they married on May 6, 1950. She lived the life of a devoted military wife for many years residing at various locations around the United States.
Cooking, food service, catering, and restaurant hotel management became her interest and career. She enjoyed being around people, being active and socializing. Some of the places she managed included the University of Oklahoma Student Union, Pott County Supper Club, Kona Surf Resort and the first instructor for the Food Service Occupation two year program at Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech in Shawnee.
Her real love, however was her family. Daylene loved spending time with them and friends while preparing some of her signature dishes for them that included her famous sushi, lomi salmon, chicken hekka, poi, macaroni salad, pineapple upside down cake and of course her banana bread, just to name a few.
She was preceded in death by her father Nathan Kalani and mother Lucy Koopaulu Cockett, a son James Douglas "JD" Claytor, a great-grandson Landry J. Claytor, three sisters Dorothea, Josephine and Stella.
Those left to cherish her memory are a brother Nathan K. Cockett II, wife Diney, a daughter Tracie Jo Osborne husband Rex, three sons, Mike Claytor wife Lisa, Denver Lee Claytor Jr., and David Claytor, wife Jamie, four grandsons, four granddaughters, eighteen great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.
A special thank you to the staff of nurses, aides, and chaplains of Heartland Hospice, Colonial Estates and The Regency in Shawnee.
Daylene will be laid to rest at a graveside ceremony at 2:00 p.m. on Friday May 5th at Johnson Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral & Cremation Service.
