Delma O’Neal McCown, 88, passed from this life on December 22, 2021, after an extended battle with dementia. Delma was born in Okemah, Oklahoma, on October 11, 1933, as the only child to Delmer and Hazel Thomson O’Neal. While attending East Central State College that Delma met the love of her life, Jon Roy McCown, when a friend introduced her to a tall, lanky red head with a crooked grin that melted her heart, and the rest, as they say, is history. Delma and Jon married on December 31, 1955, at the Church of Christ in Ada, Oklahoma, and they soon started a family with the birth of their eldest daughter, Jonna. Daughters Jerri, Jamie and Jacque soon followed. In 1964, the family moved to Shawnee where Jon owned and operated McCown Plumbing for 55 years. With Jon’s passing in December 2020, Delma’s health began to steadily decline. Delma is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Jon; parents Delmer and Hazel O’Neal; in-laws, Duane and Beth McCown; brother-in-laws Robert and Richard McCown; sister-in-law Patricia McCown Patton and husband Bill; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Delma leaves behind all four daughters, Jonna Abernathy; Jerri and husband Artie Payne; Jamie and husband Michael Moucka; Jacque and husband Joe Honeycutt; grandchildren, Jeremy and wife Alisha Payne; Justin and wife Christy Payne; Mysti Moucka; Chanse and wife Sarah Moucka; Sean and wife Keili Moucka; Kristofer Moucka; Jon Rocket and Charity Abernathy; great grandchildren, Caitlin Hathcock and husband Gant; Benjamin Payne; Owin Payne; Taylor Thompson; Rylee Thompson; Trey Thompson; and, Thea Moucka, Reed Moucka, Fynn Moucka; Navy Reese and Evi Abernathy. The family has requested donations be given to the Alzheimer’s Foundation in lieu of flowers. Viewing and visitation will be from 1PM to 5PM Sunday, December 26, 2021 at Walker Funeral and Cremation Service. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Monday, December 27, 2021 at Resthaven Memorial Park.
