Dorothy Ann Fleming passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the age of 89 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She was born on December 9, 1934, in Wanette, Oklahoma to Curtis J. Beets and Anne (Briggs) Beets.
Throughout her life, Dorothy worked as a banker and a homemaker. She was celebrated as the first female Vice President of the 1st National Bank and Trust in Oklahoma City, a remarkable accomplishment that paved the way for future generations of women in banking. Her professional success was matched by her commitment to her family and community, where her legacy of generosity and hospitality resonated deeply.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Dorothy will fondly remember her warm smile and welcoming open arms. Those who visited her home always left with a full stomach and a heart warmed by her presence.
Dorothy found joy in nurturing her beautiful flowers and plants. She had a passion for fishing, especially crappie and trotline catfishing, where she would spend countless hours enjoying the outdoors and the thrill of the catch.
Dorothy's strong-willed personality complemented her kind-hearted spirit, making her a cherished friend and an inspiring figure for many. Those left to mourn her passing are her husband, John Fleming, brother, James Beets, and many nieces and nephews. Those preceding Dorothy in death are her parents, Curtis and Anne Beets, husband, Donald Furr, and sister, Betty VanSchuyver.
To honor her life and legacy, a funeral ceremony will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024, at Grace Church in Shawnee, Oklahoma, beginning at 2:00 PM. Following the ceremony, she will be laid to rest in Wanette Cemetery.
