Doyle F. Wasson

September 21, 1936 — January 4, 2020

Doyle F. Wasson of 1618 Spruce Circle, Shawnee, Oklahoma departed this life peacefully to be with his sweetheart, Mary in heaven on January 4, 2020.

Doyle was born September 21, 1936 in Chandler Oklahoma to Cecil and Jewell Wasson.  Doyle lived in Bristow and Sulphur Oklahoma as a child and lived much of his life in Shawnee, where he and Mary raised two children.  Doyle embraced toil and triumph, humble beginnings and the prosperity of friends.  He served in the Forestry Service in Idaho and in the United States Air Force at Tinker AFB.  Doyle was a Conductor on the Rock Island Railroad, was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, United Transportation Union, the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees, the NRA and the Republican Party and earned a BA degree in 1998 from Oklahoma Baptist University.  He loved to visit with people, daily walks and travelling.

Everyone who knew and loved Doyle will miss his loving heart, his stories and the laughter he brought to us all.  The world is a better place because of the tender-hearted man that he was.

Doyle is preceded in death by his soul mate, Mary Miller Wasson, his parents Cecil and Jewel Wasson, his grandparents Robert and Louisa McClendon, and their children, Pearl and husband Frank, Opal, Ruby, Goldie, Jessie, Georgia, brother and sister-in-law Don and Bonnie Wasson, and his nephew Matthew Wasson.

He is survived by his children Donna Wasson and Darrell Wasson, cousins Annette McClendon and Raymond Thompson, nephews David Wasson (and children Deanna Wilcox, Chris and Rachel) and Michael Wasson.  His train has "tied up in the yard" of Heaven where we will see him again.

A memorial celebration will be held on January 25th at 2:00pm at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1451 E. 45th St, Shawnee.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation honouring Doyle and Mary to the American Cancer Society or bring a meal and visit a lonely elderly neighbor.
