Shawnee resident Elsie Annie Speer, 90, died Sunday, May 7, 2017 in Shawnee. Services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Walker Funeral Service with Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Heartland Hospice. She was born August 18, 1926 in Philadelphia, PA to George W. Blanck and Sarah H. (Kurst) Blanck. She married Ralph H. Speer on July 13, 1944 in Philadelphia and she worked much of her life as a homemaker. She also worked as a nurse’s aid, a volunteer for Heartland Hospice, Girl Scouts for 25 years, taught Sunday school, was a foster mother, served as Air-Raid Warden during the war, and enjoyed singing in the choir. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 daughters: Margaret Neely and Helen Gallaway, 2 grandchildren: Kimberly Deanne Grimes and Arron Wayne Grimes, brother: Samuel Blanck, and a sister: Charlotte Weiner. Survivors include 3 Children: Rosie Speer of Kennewick, WA, Donald Speer and wife Kimberly of Denton, TX, and Charlotte Price and husband Johnny of Shawnee; as well as 11 Grandchildren, numerous Great-Grandchildren, 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren, 1 Sister: Amy Williamson of PA, and numerous other family members and friends.
