Shawnee resident Esther Janet Gunderson, 80, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2021 in Shawnee. Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Walker Funeral Service Chapel. Esther was born June 14, 1940 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Melvin Skoug and Rena (Olson) Skoug. She attended high school at Eleva-Strum Central in Wisconsin and later the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, University of Wisconsin-Kenosha, and Central State University in Edmond, OK where she maintained a 4.0 grade average throughout college. Esther married Phillip Gunderson on November 16, 1959 in Strum, WI. She worked as a homemaker but also owned Lakeview Motel and was a Manager for Dillard’s in Shawnee. She enjoyed family trips and holidays, water aerobics, and active member of the Elks assisting with ladies special events. She loved to work hard to meet expectations and play hard to enjoy her love of life and joy of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 sisters: Violet, Mavis, and Burnes. Survivors include her husband: Phillip Gunderson of the home, 4 Sons: Gregory Gunderson and wife Marie of Flower Mound, TX, Jeff Gunderson and wife Brenda of Meeker, OK, Robert Gunderson and wife Karen of Edmond, OK, Eric Gunderson and wife Christine of Dallas, TX, 8 Grandchildren, 3 Great-Grandchildren (and one on the way), 1 Brother: Russel Skoug of TX, And several nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
