Floyd "Gene" Murphy, age 82, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 16, 2023 surrounded by his family.
Gene was born August 18, 1941 in McLoud, Oklahoma to Leonard and Cleo Ann (Chambless) Murphy. He was raised in McLoud and graduated from McLoud High School in 1959. Following high school, Gene joined the U.S. Army, serving three years before his honorable discharge. Gene married Delma Lemmons on February 14, 1993, in Oklahoma City. They shared over 30 years of blessed marriage and friendship. During Gene's career, he worked for OG&E for 32 years while also owning and operating a number of car washes. After his formal retirement, Gene and Delma pursued a lifelong passion for working outdoors by raising Texas Longhorns. Gene was a man of many worthy pursuits including flying as a private pilot, water skiing, and traveling the country with Delma in their RV. In addition to being a devoted husband, Gene wore the title of "Papa" proudly and doted on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His legacy will forever be imprinted on each of his family members and will last through the generations to come. Gene loved his family more than anything else on this earth.
Survivors include his cherished wife Delma of the home, children: Pamela "Pam" Myers and husband Dale of Excelsior Springs, MO, Daniel "Danny" Murphy and wife Korrine of Harrah, OK, Summer Holman and husband Colin of Nicoma Park, OK, Donald "Matt" Grice and wife Caroline of Choctaw, OK; siblings: Etta Sue Garner of Shawnee, OK, Bonnie Glover of Macomb, OK, Kathy Crabb of Shawnee, OK, Bobby Murphy and wife Christy of Oklahoma City, OK, Roy Murphy and wife Marilyn of Nicoma Park, OK; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A ceremony to celebrate the End of Trail for Gene will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Grace Place Baptist Church, 9300 S. Anderson Road, Oklahoma City, with Pastor Robby Roberson officiating.
