Freda Taylor Hinkle, 82, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on December 6, 2024, in Oklahoma City, surrounded by her beloved family and friends.
Born on June 8, 1942, in Watford, England, Freda was the tenth of eleven siblings. Freda was the cherished daughter of Henry and Margaret Mary Taylor.
In 1963, Freda embarked on a new chapter, moving to America, and pursuing a career as a hair stylist after attending cosmetology school. Her generosity and creativity shone through her many passions, which included painting, gardening, and knitting caps for newborns at her local hospital. She was a bibliophile, with a particular love for English novels. Freda devoted her life to fostering love and connection, earning the title of “Mom” to many who were fortunate to know her. Above all, Freda found joy in cooking and baking cookies. Freda loved hosting and always welcomed friends and family into the farm life she and Royce enjoyed. She had a special knack for making everyone feel like they belonged, offering Yorkshire gold-standard meals, and ending them with a perfectly brewed cup of English tea.
Freda was the devoted wife of the late Dr. Royce A. Hinkle Jr., with whom she now reunites in Heaven. She leaves behind a loving family who will carry her legacy forward: her son, Stephen Hinkle of Dallas, Texas; her “second children,” Debbi and Billy Reinschmiedt of Alameda, California, Elaine and Rick Miller of Oklahoma City, and Tracy and Karen Hinkle of DeBary, Florida.
Freda was also a proud grandmother to Taylar and Brian Wenzel, Ashlie and Robert Oscher, Kristen and Caleb Harris, and Morgan and Steven Balogh, all of Florida, and Taylor Green of Marquette, MI. She adored her eight great-grandchildren: Julia Clements, Lakynn Oscher, Noah Harris, Skylar Oscher, Connor Wenzel, Grayson Harris, Jake Wenzel, and Harper Balogh. Freda’s sister, Sheila, and her husband, James Westgate, of Wimbourne, Dorset, England, also survive her.
A funeral service will be held at the Walker Funeral Chapel, 201 E. 45th Street, Shawnee, OK 74804, on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM, followed by a private burial for family and close friends at Memory Lane Cemetery, 20451 NE 10th Street, Harrah, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Toby Keith Foundation’s “OK Kids Corral” at https://www.continuetogive.com/tobykeithfoundation/donation_prompt.
Freda will be fondly remembered for her positive outlook, kindness, sharp wit, and unwavering devotion to her loved ones. Her legacy of love, service, and warmth will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
