Gary Wayne Smith was born on December 3, 1946, in Okemah, Oklahoma and departed this life on Monday, June 28, 2021, at his residence in Shawnee, OK, at the age of 74.
Gary, the son of Hugh Smith, Jr. and Martha (Moody) Smith, was raised in the Moore, Oklahoma area and graduated from Moore High School in 1965. Gary married Linda Lou Cannon on September 1, 1967. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Robin and Becky. They enjoyed traveling often to Eureka Springs and Branson where they spent time with one another, family, and friends. Gary was known for his love of being outside whether doing yard work, golfing, or fishing. Those close to him also knew about Gary's enjoyment of comic books and Western memorabilia. He worked for Western Electric, which later became AT&T, and at his retirement Lucent Technologies. As well, Gary adored his church family and was a long time member of Northridge Church of Christ where Gary served as a Deacon and later as an Elder.
Gary is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Vince Villa of Harrisonville, MO and Becky and Tony Brum of Moore, OK; grandchildren, Quinn Brum and fiancée Mikayla Blankenship of Norman, OK, Collin Schlegel of Harrisonville, MO, Ashton Brum of Oklahoma City, OK, Veronica Villa, and Mario Villa both of Harrisonville, MO; brother, Roger Smith; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Brenda and Charles Dortch; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Guynell Cannon; sister-in-law, Judy Cannon; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Gary is preceded in death by his wife, Linda; his parents; parents-in-law, Roy L. and Hazel (Reed) Cannon; daughter, Renee Smith; sister, Reba Joyce Smith; brother-in-law, Robert Cannon; sister-in-law, Mary (Brown) Smith; as well as his grandchildren, Aidan and Arianna Farooq.
Friends and loved ones may pay their respects to Gary at the Walker funeral home from 8am-8pm Friday, July 2, 2021 with the family present to greet friends from 6pm-7pm. The family requests those attending the visitation to please wear masks due to the Delta variant of Covid-19. A graveside ceremony to gratefully commemorate Gary's life will be held at the Schoolton Cemetery near Cromwell, OK at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2021 where he will be laid to rest next to his wife, Linda.
